This story of Śrigupta as told in our text is related also in several other books, e. g. in the "Avadāna Kalpalatā"⁴ and the "Tsêng-i-a-han-ching".⁵ In Fa-hsien's narrative the murderous plot is ascribed to an unnamed Nirgrantha.⁶
