Concerning Kapilavastu I still hold the opinion that the remains at Piprāwā were shown to Fa-hsien as those of Kapilavastu, while the guides of Yuan-chwang identified the town with the walled city now known as Tilaura-Kōṭ. The reasons for this opinion will be found in my Prefatory Note to Mukherji's Report on the Antiquities in the Tarāi, Nepāl (Archaeol. Surv. Rep. No. XXVI, Part I, Calcutta, 1901).
