The Vṛiji (*Fu-li-chih*) country (II, 81) evidently is roughly equivalent to the northern part of the Darbhanga District and the adjacent Nepalese Tarāi. A possible site for the capital is offered by the ruins at Balīgaṛh or Kshēmāgaṛh, some 16 miles north of Madhubani, which are miscalled ‘Burdras’ on the map, and ‘Bindras’ in the official *List of Ancient Monuments in Bengal*. I am indebted to the Magistrate of Darbhanga for the real name of the place. The ramparts are said to be ten feet high and in an excellent state of preservation.
