The augment also appears as *ā-* before *y* in *āyukta* v 17 3b (2T) and *āyunak* *i 163 2b (10). Similarly before *r* we find *āriṇak* ii 13 5b (8), and *āraik* occurs several times in positions which prove the first syllable long.
