(i) In all other parts of the Rigveda a pause is found after the 8th syllable in about 35 per cent. of the verses, which is just the proportion that might be expected if no special rhythm were aimed at. But in the Vasiṣṭha hymns this pause occurs in no less than 57 per cent. of the verses.
