The author is the celebrated Maithili Smārta and Naiyāyika Gokulanātha, son of Pitāmbara and Umādevī of Phaṇadaha family in Maṅgraunī, who lived and wrote in Benares at the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century. The work is referred to by himself in his *Pada-vākya-ratnākara*¹. He is probably the same as wrote a commentary on Mammaṭa, see above p. 186. His drama *Amṛtodaya* (written about 1693 A.D.) has been published in *Kāvyamālā* 59, 1897¹.
