P. 32, l. 5.—Winternitz (op. cit. p. 5, fn 2, at p. 6) notes that in the Viṣṇupurāṇa iii 6, the muni Bharata is called an early teacher of the Gāndharvaveda (i.e. music). Winternitz also appears to accept the view (op. cit. p. 9) that Mātṛgupta wrote a commentary on Bharata.
