39 This is explained by the following commentary: *guṇā rasam vinā nāvatiṣṭhante, guṇā rasam avaśyam upakurvanti, alaṃkārās tvavaśyam nōpakurvanti, guṇā rasa-dharmā ataḥ sākṣād rase tiṣṭhanti, alaṃkārās tu na rase sākṣāt tiṣṭhanti kim tu tvaṅga-dvāreṇa*.
