Bhaṭṭa Nārāyaṇa has chosen as his topic³ one episode from the great epic and has endeavoured to make it capable of dramatic representation. One of the worst of the insults heaped on Draupadī in the gambling scene of the epic is the dragging of her by the hair before the assembly by Duḥçāsana, one of the Kauravas. Draupadī vows never to braid her hair again until the insult is avenged, as it ultimately is.
