Rūpa's desciple RAGHUNATHADASA wrote the short but beautiful poem the Muktācarita,⁸ a funny tale in which Kṛṣṇa told Satyabhāma that pearls could be grown as a crop and demonstrated it by sowing a pearl and watering it with milk. Then the Gopīs sowed all the pearls they had, but no plants came out. After repeated entreaties, Kṛṣṇa relented and returned the pearls.
