¹ MS. E. I. H. 576. contains a commentary on the Rig-veda, where a passage from the Sarvânukramanî is quoted as शौनकदिमतसंग्रहीतुर्वररुचेरनुक्रमणिका॥ This commentary of Âtmânanda seems anterior to Sâyaṇa. In the introduction different works and commentaries, connected with the Veda are quoted, but Mâdhava and Sâyaṇa are never mentioned. We find the Skândabhâshya, and commentators such as Udgîtha-bhâskara, mentioned (स्कान्दभाष्यादिषु भाष्यकारैरुद्गीथभास्करादिभिः) by Âtmânanda, and the same works were known also to Devarâjayajvan. Devarâjayajvan, however, quotes not only Skandasvâmin and Bhaṭṭa-bhâskara-miśra, but also Mâdhava. He therefore was later than Mâdhava. Skandasvâmin, and Bhâskara, on the contrary, were anterior to Mâdhava, being quoted in his commentary. Âtmânanda, though not quoted by Mâdhava, seems anterior to Mâdhava, and the authorities which he quotes are such as Śaunaka, Vedamitra (Śâkalya), the Bṛihaddevatâ, Vishṇudharmottara, and Yâska.
