¹ Maitreyî-brâhmaṇa is the title given to that portion of the Bṛihadâraṇyaka which contains the dialogue between Yâjñavalkya and Maitreyî. The Saulabhâni brâhmaṇâni, quoted by Âśvalâyana and Pâṇini as modern compositions, may refer to sections containing a dialogue similar to that between Janaka and Sulabhâ, which exists in the Mahâbhârata, III. v. 11,854. Cf. Lassen, Ind. Alterth. xv. note. According to Pâṇini, however, they ought to be taken as Brâhmaṇas composed by Sulabha.
