Crasis of this kind is ordinarily explained as *ārṣa-sandhi*, but this explanation is manifestly untenable here 1. All these irregularities are readily intelligible on the two suppositions, that Pkt words were converted into their Skt equivalents, and that past tenses were changed to futures, with the metrical difficulties that naturally ensued.
