It is thus seen that none of the descriptive particulars applies in toto to either of our texts; but the Vāyu Purāṇa answers the description in major particulars and hence is eligible for being included in the list of the Mahāpurāṇas especially as it possesses the characteristics of a Mahāpurāṇa which are absent in the Śiva Purāṇa.²⁶
