"Her eyes beautified with Kajjala, have assumed a purple hue, they look like the petals of lotus coloured with vermilion,"§—this is a picture of Rādhā just after bathing when the eyes grow reddish. The Indian poets are lavish in using metaphors to indicate the beauty of the eyes,—of those glances which bear messages to lovers, for their subjects can hardly find an opportunity to speak or write to each other. The stolen glances are the only means of intercourse of soul, they are the speech of love, and are minutely watched by the poets—চঞ্চল নয়নে বন্ধ নেহারনী is a significant point in all such stories.
