∗ In a paper submitted to the Ninth Oriental Congress, Mr. Dhruvahas recently examined the whole Vedic literature with a view to ascertain its chronology, and he arrives at the conclusion that the duration assigned to the several periods of the Vedic literature by Prof. Max Müller is too short, and that " without making any guesses at numbers of years or centuries " we should at present be content with arranging the Vedic literature somewhat after the manner of the Geological strata or periods
