∗ Two glosses on Śaṃkara's commentary on the Praśnopanishad and the Muṇḍakopanishad bear the same name, so that possibly the author of them is identical with the above-named Náráyaṇa. Acc. to what has just been remarked in note 50, this must appear *à priori* very doubtful, since a considerable number of other authors bear the same name. But in this particular case we are able to bring forward definite reasons against this identification. The glossarist of the Praśnop. was called *Náráyaṇendra* according to *I. St.*, i. 470; according to the note, *ibid.*, i. 439, *Náráyaṇa Sarasvatí*; according to Aufrecht, Catalogue of the Oxford MSS., p. 366 (1859-64), rather *Ráyaṇendrasarasvatí* (!). The glossarist of the Muṇḍakop., on the other hand, was, according to *I. St.*, i. 470, called *Náráyaṇabhaṭṭa*; and he is probably identical with the author of the *dípiká* on the small Atharvopanishads published in the *Bibl. Ind.* in 1872, who (*ibid.*, p. 393) is called *Bhaṭṭa Náráyaṇa*, and son of Bhaṭṭa Ratnákara.]
