⁵⁵ On the other hand, there are metres taught in this work which but rarely occur in modern literature, and which must be looked upon as obsolete and out of fashion. Therefore, in spite of what has been said above, we must carry back the date of its composition to a period about simultaneous with the close of the Vedic Sútra literature, or the commencement of the astronomical and algebraical literatures; see *I. St.*, viii. 173, 178.
