A fourth Sáma-Sútra is the *Anupada-Sútra*, in ten *prapáṭhakas*, the work of an unknown author. It explains the obscure passages of the Pañchaviṅśa-Bráhmaṇa, and, it would appear, of the Shaḍviṅśa-Bráhmaṇa also, accompanying the text step by step. It has not as yet been closely examined; but it promises to prove a rich mine of material for the history of Brahmanical theology, as it makes mention of, and appeals to, an extremely large number of different works. For example, of schools of the Ṛik, it cites the Aitareyins, the Paiṅgins, the Kaushítaka; of schools of the Yajus, the Adhvaryus in general; further, the Śátyáyanins, Kháḍáyanins, the Taittiríyas, the Káṭhaka, the Kálabavins, Bhállavins, Śámbuvis, Vájasaneyins; and frequently also *śruti*, *smṛiti*, *ácháryas*, &c. It is a work which deserves to be very thoroughly studied.⁸⁰
