¹ The rule referred to (iv. 3. 102) is, according to the statement of the Calcutta scholiast, not explained in Patañjali’s Bháshya; possibly, therefore, it may not be Páṇini’s at all, but may be later than Patañjali. [The name Taittiríya itself, however, is several times mentioned in the Bháshya, see *I. St.*, xiii. 442, which is also acquainted with ‘*Tittiriṇá proktáḥ ślokáḥ*,’ not belonging to the Chhandas, see *I. St.*, v. 41; Goldstücker, *Páṇini*, p. 243.]
