Neither the Chhagalins, nor the Śvetáśvataras, nor the Maitráyaṇíyas are mentioned in the Sútras of the other Vedas, or in similar works, as schools of the Black Yajus; still, we must certainly ascribe to the last mentioned a very active share in its development, and the names Maitreya and Maitreyí at least are not unfrequently quoted in the Bráhmaṇas.
