‡ Sáyaṇa, commenting on the corresponding passage of the Taitt. Bráhmaṇa (iii. 4. 1), explains the word *atikrushṭáya* by *atininditadeváya*, "dedicated to the very Blameworthy as his deity" [in Rájendra Lála Mitra's edition, p. 347]; this 'very Blameworthy,' it is true, might also refer to the bad moral reputation of the minstrels.
