³⁰ This name appears both in the Vaṅśas in the last book of the Śatap. Br., and in the Káṇḍánukrama of the Átreyí school, where he is called Paiṅgi, and described as the pupil of Vaiśampáyana, and teacher of Tittiri. From Páṇ., ii. 4. 63, it follows that Páṇini was cognisant of the name Yáska, for he there teaches the plural *Yaskás* for the patronymic *Yáska*. Compare on this the *pravara* section in the Áśvaláyana-Śrauta-Sútra. The *Yaská Gairikshitáḥ* are mentioned in the Káṭhaka, which again is quoted by Páṇini; see *I. St.*, iii. 475. A direct reference to Yáska is made in the Ṛik-Prát. and in the Bṛihaddevatá; see also *I. St.*, viii. 96, 245, 246.
