¹ Sanskrit "Indu" means "drop" and "moon." It is to the credit of A. Hillebrandt to have shown in his "Vedische Mythologie" (Breslau 1891 ff.) that already in the Ṛgveda, Soma did not mean only the plant, but also the moon. In the whole of the later literature Soma is the moon.
