² Suttanipāta, Selasutta is especially remarkable, where it is said of the Brahman Sela that he is conversant with the *three vedas*, the Vedāṅgas and the Itihāsa as fifth (ed. Fausböll, p. 101). Also in Suttanipāta 1019 it is said of Bāvarī that he has mastered th three Vedas. (SBE, vol. X, II, pp. 98 and 189).
