v1.c8.s6.17
[^1): The sacrifices of the Ancient Indians fall into two great sub-divisions: *food sacrifices* (in which principally milk, butter, cake, pulp and grain were offered) and *Soma sacrifices* (whose chief component part is the soma-libations). The separate sacrifices may be classed under these two chief groups. The animal sacrifice is connected with sacrifices of the first division, as well as those of the second In connection with every kind of sacrifice is the *fire-cult*, which is, to a certain extent, the preliminary of every kind of worship of the gods. [^2): According to the law books, the drinking of brandy is as great a sin as the murder of a Brahman.
