Cf. above, Vol. I, p. 483, and *Charpentier*, WZKM 24, 1910, p. 397, note 2 ; 27, p. 94. *Oldenberg* (NGGW 1918, 456 ff.) has compared the epic tale with the Jātaka as regards style, and has shown that, in the Jātaka, the story is told with greater simplicity and less subtlety than in the Rāmāyaṇa.
