¹ The recommendation of *yogācāra* in XIV, 18, and XX, 68, does not refer to the *yogācāra* school of the Mahāyāna, but only to the advantages of the practice of Yoga (Haraprasāda Śāstrī, Preface, p. xii). Moreover, the tendency of the Hīnayāna, is seen clearly when Nanda pays homage to Buddha, and Buddha restrains him by saying that worship is due not to him, but to the Dharma (XVIII, 22).
