¹ *Ed. Huber* (Sūtrālaṃkāra, pp. 63, 82) thought he had found a confirmation of the identity of Mātṛceṭa and Aśvaghoṣa, in the fact that Mātṛceṭa, too, cites the parable of the tortoise and the yoke in the ocean. However, even at the time, *Huber's* argument was not convincing (s. *Winternitz* in WZKM 27, 1913, 46 f.) and now that we know that Aśvaghoṣa is not the author of the "Sūtrālaṃkāra" at all, his argument falls to the ground entirely. See *F. W. Thomas* in OC XIII, Hamburg 1902, p. 40; ERE VIII, 1915, 495 ff.; *Hoernle*, Manuscript Remains, I, p. 59; *Lüders* in SBA 1914, p. 103.
