v2.c19.s6.t4.322

A contemporary and opponent of Chandrakīrti, whose teachings he refuted, was Candragomin, who enjoys an immense reputation in the Buddhist world as a grammarian, philosopher and poet. According to Tāranātha,[^2) who has much that is legendary to relate of him, he composed an enormous number of hymns and learned works. Of his poetical works we have only a religious poem in the form of a letter to his pupil, the *Śiṣyalekha-Dharma-Kāvya*.[^3) Buddhist doctrines are here presented in elegant Kāvya style. His drama Lokānanda has come down to us only in the Tibetan version in the Tanjur.[^4)
