v3.c35.s2.73

¹ Generally he is known simply as "Dhvanikāra, the author (of memorial verses) on dhvani". It is not likely that he was called Sahṛdaya, as V. V. Sovani tries to prove (JRAS, 1910, 164 ff.), since at best it is an epithet. Sushil Kumar De, BSOS I 4, 1920 p. 1 ff. attempts to answer the question as to who was Dhvanikāra but arrives merely at the conclusion that he must have been at least one hundred years earlier than Ānandavardhana. Subsequently the latter became such a strong single advocate of the dhvani-theory that people did not distinguish between the Dhvanikāra and the Vṛttikāra.
