² In any case, it is noteworthy that upto the period of the reign of Akbar the Great (1556-1605) this work continued to interest the people. Rāmadāsa wrote his commentary in 1596 A. D. under orders of Akbar, and Akbar's son Jahāngīr got a Sanskrit translation of the Rāvaṇavaha prepared.
