The reasons for this have been already indicated. As far as moveable property like ornaments, jewelry, costly apparel, etc. was concerned, women’s right to own it was recognised at a very early date. All this property went under the category of Strīdhana or Women’s Special Property. The story of its development is a very interesting chapter in the history of Hindu law.
