When the land tax was collected in kind, the annual dues must naturally have been recovered at least in two instalments at the time when the autumn and spring crops were garnered.⁷ A Gujarat record, however, shows that it was sometimes collected in as many as three instalments under the Rāshtrakūṭa administration.⁸
