¹ Purohita (chief priest), Senapati (commander-in-chief), ministers, ambassadors and spies are referred to as constituting 'The Great Fivefold Group' in early Tamil literature, *Muduraikkanji*, ll. 499, 510. They must obviously have exercised considerable influence over the king.
