When Kumārapāla prohibited slaughter of animals on certain days, the feudatories imposed different scales of fines. One feudatory imposed a fine of four Drammas; another prescribed a fine of five Drammas on ordinary persons and of one Dramma only on members of royal families.⁵ The imposition of different fines on different persons by different feudatories show that feudalism had become a law unto itself and a source of oppression to the population.
