These assignments of revenue were very large and sometimes comprised whole provinces of the Kingdom. Even modest assignments were very remunerative.³ The huge totals of these assignments may be judged from the fact that when a valuation sheet was prepared under Firuz Tughluq, the total value of revenue-assignments came to more than 57 milions of silver coins.⁴ The emoluments of the nobles of rank will be dealt with later.
