³ Compare a petition quoted by Amir Khusrau (vide I.K., II, 319); It is addressed to a highly placed administrative official of Delhi on behalf of a citizen, and solicits his intervention against a foreign merchant. The petitioner summarizes in a sentence his main indictment. 'Since the stream of gold flows through our majestic city of Delhi', writes the indignant Amir Khusrau, 'the tribe of foreign merchants pretend to be on terms of best friendship with us, only to ruin the foundations of our prosperity in the long run'.
