Dasehra was very popular with the Khsatriyas and all agricultural classes. The festival occurred on the 10th of Jaistha (now also called Vijay Dasmi) and the favourite Saivite goddess Durga was worshipped by the above-mentioned classes. The other prominent feature was the worship of the respective implements of their trade, profession or occupation. The Rajput brought his horse after decorating its forehead with green sprouts of barley; the peasants and craftsmen brought their tools and worshipped them.⁵ Purna-mashi occurred on the full moon of the month of Sravana and was the favourite festival of the Brahmans. Rakhis (or strings made of silk thread and tinsel) were put as wristlets on the hands of young men by the maidens for good luck and affection.
