when the Guptas of whom there is no mention in the Kāmasūtra, were again uniting northern India under a common sway. From this the conclusion is inevitable that the Kāmasutra was composed about the middle of the third century A.C. and this agrees with the conclusion arrived at from an examination of the literary data.
