Other tribes or *gaṇas* mentioned in the inscriptions and quoted by Majumdar are *arjunagaṇas* in the Allahabad Pillar inscription of Samudragupta, the *audumbaras* from numismatic sources, as also the *kuṇindas* and the *vṛṣṇis*. The latter seems to have been a powerful tribe which continued to exist for a long time. The *Kauṭalīya*, the *Mahābhārata* and the *Harṣacarita*¹ refer to this tribe.
