taken by some that one of the qualifications to be a member of the *Pariṣad* is to be aged at least fifty years from पञ्चाशद्वर्षवयसं of the *Mahābhārata*. (*Śānti Parvan* lxxxv. 9.) But this is wrong for this phrase is an adjective qualifying the noun ‘Sūta’ only. Hence the age restriction was only in the case of the Sūta and not other members of the *Pariṣad*.
