That the Vijayanagar kings used the boar crest and boar standard is also evident from the inscriptions and the Local Records. It is said in the chronicle of chiefs of Naḍimiḍoḍḍi Pāḷayam that king Kṛṣṇadēvarāya in his expedition against Gulburga beat the drum of victory and set up the *vṛṣabha dhvaja*.²³
