² In this sense the expressions *mante* and others are used in the Tittira Jātaka, where it is said of the partridge that it listens, while the teacher teaches his pupils the *mante* and that in this way it learns the three Vedas (*ācariyassa mānavānaṃ mante vācentassa sutvā tayo pi vede ugganhi*.
