Along with the circumstance stated here, that the senāpati was offered the kingship, it may be mentioned, as proof of the importance of his position, that the residents of the city, when their request for help is refused by the king, resolve to go to the senāpati, thinking, “The king cares nothing for the city, we will inform the senāpati” (V. 459 sq.)
