As he shares the fortunes of the king, so also he shares the misfortune of his lord. When fleeing at night from an invaded town, the robbed king takes with him, besides the queen and a servant, only the *purohita* (III. 417). As he, as explained in the Padakusala-Mâṇava Jâtaka (III. 513 sq.), has plundered the land along with the king, he is killed, along with the latter, by the enraged populace.
