Sacrifice and fortune-telling seem, however, to have been both not so valuable as a third art which was likewise a privilege of the Brâhmaṇas, namely, magic. We have heard above (p. 120) what the king replies to the Brâhmaṇa, manifestly shocked at his shameless demands:
