† I. 10. 18. 1. 'Receiving as his pay', the term used in the original is 'bhṛitaḥ' which the commentator Govindasvāmin explains as 'bhṛitirvetanaṁ dhanam tadgrāhī bhṛitaḥ.' The use of 'vetana' (wage) to indicate the king's dues is noticeable.
