42. Perhpas we should go even further: the original opposition seems to be between Varuṇa (or, in the decisive phase of the ritual, Indra) and the Maruts. This opposition was then partially replaced with the one between Prajāpati, the epitome of the classical theory of sacrifice, and his prajāḥ.
