86. *Manu* 6. 83 prescribes the recitation of texts bearing on (a) ritual equivalences (*adhiyajñam brahma*), (b) macrocosmic equivalences (*ādhidaivikam*), (c) the equivalences referring to the self (*ādhyātmikam*), and (d) vedānta (*vedāntābhihitaṃ ca yat*). A hierarchical gradation seems to be intended, building up to the meditation on the (interiorized) ritual.
